Jack and the Beanstalk by Richard Walker

Believe it or not, I had never actually read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk until just recently, and while I had heard about the story on numerous occasions, I had never picked up the book myself. The other day I got spoiled, as I followed along in Jack and the Beanstalk by Richard Walker, while my children were listening to the story on the accompanying story time CD.

Just as my three sons, I carefully followed along, listened intensely as the story line unfolded, and along with my children I was fascinated by the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Jack and the Beanstalk is a magical tale about how faith and belief in something will get you far, about how optimism will help you when things are rough, and most of all the belief in a solution arising when needed.

Jack and the Beanstalk by Richard Walker is illustrated by Niamh Sharkey, and the illustrations are whimsical and unique. The charming images tell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk beautifully, and it is possible to grasp a big part of the story line even without reading or listening to the story itself. The earthy colors brings the reader and listener to a different time where things were more simple and uncomplicated, yet Sharkey brings a modern twist to the story with her very specific illustrative style.

All three of my boys loved Jack and the Beanstalk by Richard Walker and Niamh Sharkey, and it is another fabulous book from Barefoot Books.

Oh my goodness, I don't think I have ever read a version of Jack and the Beanstalk either. I just know it orally (and also from the musical "Into The Woods"). I should definitely check this out for our family. Especially since we love fairytales!
